Grant or Tender Application Review
Don't let avoidable mistakes cost you critical funding. Our expert grant or tender application reviews significantly help boost your success rate.
A grant or tender application is a huge investment of time and energy, and you want to be sure it’s as strong as possible before you send it off. But what if there are gaps you can’t see? What if your best ideas aren’t coming across clearly?
Every grant or tender writer knows this feeling.
You’ve poured countless hours into your application. You’ve researched the opportunity, gathered data, written and rewritten every section, and checked all the boxes. Now you’re staring at the “Submit” button, and a little voice in the back of your head is whispering, “Is it really ready?”
It’s like having studied diligently for an exam, but before handing it in, you get a tutor to cast a fresh, expert eye over your answers, catching any missed details or areas for improvement.
Does this sound familiar?
- You’re too close to your own work. You know your project and organisation inside and out, but that can make it hard to see if the information is presented clearly to an external reviewer. What makes perfect sense to you might be confusing to someone reading it for the first time.
- The stakes are high. There’s a lot riding on this application, and that pressure can make you second-guess yourself. You might wonder if you’ve addressed every prompt, if your budget is detailed enough, or if your narrative truly tells a compelling story.
- You need a fresh set of eyes. A simple typo, an awkward sentence, or a missing piece of information can make the difference between a successful application and one that gets put in the “no” pile. I remember reading one response where someone had said they were ‘complacent’ with workplace health and safety – I’m sure they meant ‘compliant’. You need a trusted colleague to review your work, but you don’t have one available, or they’re also too close to the work.
- You’ve had a few people amend your work. You presented a draft and there’s been a few people, including your boss, making changes. Unfortunately you’ve had to cull some other key information to work with their amendments. You need an independent review to demonstrate why some of these changes just don’t work.
Our Solution
That’s where we come in. We offer a grant and tender application review service designed to be your final, crucial step before you finalise your application and click submit. Our goal is to provide you with the clarity and confidence you need to send in your application knowing it’s as strong as it can be.
We provide a thorough, independent review of your application from the perspective of an experienced assessor.
We will assess your proposal for:
- Clarity and Flow: Is your project narrative easy to follow? Do all the pieces fit together logically? We’ll help you streamline your message and ensure your ideas are presented compellingly.
- Completeness: Have you addressed all the funder’s requirements? We’ll act as a second pair of eyes to make sure you haven’t missed a single detail.
- Strength of Alignment: Is your case for funding strong? We’ll help you identify areas where you can strengthen your message to better convey the importance and impact of your project. We’ll also identify opportunities where you can demonstrate a stronger alignment to the funders objectives and outcomes.
We understand how much hard work you’ve put into this. Our reviews are designed to be constructive, supportive, and empowering. We provide detailed feedback and actionable suggestions, so you’ll know exactly what to do to improve your application.
We worked with one client on a tender and our strategic review identified a significant number of improvements. Some of these required considerable reworking. Thank you Natalie, your assistance has been invaluable. It is such a pity we got to know you so late in this process. M.S., Homeless organisation

Choose the Level of Support You Need
We offer tiered pricing to ensure you can select the perfect level of feedback for your grant or tender application and your budget. No matter which option you choose, you’ll receive a detailed, professional review from an expert.
Note: Any Guarantee of a Win: While our review significantly strengthens your application and increases your chances of success, we cannot guarantee that your application will be successful. There are many reasons that applications don’t win and strategic factors, relationships or political landscape can be some of these reasons. The final decision always rests with the funder or tenderer.
We review your application like an assessor—so you submit with confidence.
Tier 1: The "Proofread & Polish" Review
This is perfect for grant writers who feel confident in their application but want a final check for clarity and professionalism.
What’s included:
- Through the assessors eyes: We’ll review your answers as an assessor and let you know any areas that don’t fit, are contrary or don’t seem aligned to the purpose of the grant. We’ll also identify where you haven’t answered the question (the most common reason applications lose points at the assessment table!)
- Proofreading: A thorough read-through to catch typos, grammatical errors, and punctuation mistakes.
- Clarity Check: We’ll flag any sentences or paragraphs that are unclear or confusing to a new reader.
- Formatting Review: We’ll ensure your document is formatted cleanly and consistently, as many funders have specific requirements for font, spacing, and headings.
Best for:
- Applications that are largely complete and you’re just looking for that final polish.
- For those working on a tight deadline or a limited budget.
- Simple applications or pitch documents with few components (e.g., a one-page letter of intent).
“Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom – we are still using what we have learnt in other applications.” Sally Hetherington, Human and Hope
What’s not included:
- Strategic Feedback: You will not receive a comprehensive feedback document analysing the strengths, weaknesses, or strategic opportunities of your proposal.
- Content Suggestions: We will not provide specific in-line comments or suggestions on how to rewrite sections to make them more compelling or persuasive.
- Alignment & Outcomes Review: There is no strategic review of how well your project aligns with the guidelines or requirements, nor an assessment of your outcomes mapping or evaluation metrics.
- Budget Review: We will not review your budget for clarity, accuracy, value for money, or alignment with the project.
- Compliance Check: This tier does not include a detailed review to ensure your application is fully compliant with all specific requirements listed in the grant or tender guidelines.
- Review of Supporting Documents: We will not review any attachments such as letters of support, detailed project plans, or CVs.
- Consultation Calls: This package does not include any phone or video calls to discuss the application or feedback.
- Review of Revisions: There is no second look or review after you have made changes to the document.
Example: We recently reviewed a philanthropic application. The key areas we identified was how to strengthen the positioning of the application to highlight alignment to the purpose of the funding. This was a big shift in the overall messaging of the application that immediately strengthened their approach.
Tier 2: The "Substantive & Strategic" Review
This is our most popular package, offering a deeper dive into the content and strategy of your application. This is for people who want to strengthen their argument and ensure their proposal is as compelling as possible.
What’s included:
- Everything in the “Proofread & Polish” tier.
- Comprehensive Feedback: A 1-2 page document highlighting key themes, strengths. Weaknesses and opportunities, including:
- Key messages: Where can your key messages be strengthened?
- Alignment: Have you clearly demonstrated how your project meets the guidelines and requirements clearly and strategically?
- Outcomes Review: For grant applications, we’ll assess outcomes mapping and evaluation metrics aligned to the guidelines and funders strategy/logic model.
- Delivery plan / Milestones: Is your plan clear and logical?
- Budget Clarity: Does your budget match your project, are you including all costs, including your in-kind allocation and does it represent value for money?
- Detailed compliance review: Does your application comply with all the requirements. This is a critical one in particular for tenders as one sentence missed from the requirements specification that you haven’t included could be the difference between a win or loss.
- In-line Comments: Specific suggestions and questions placed directly within your document to guide your revisions.
Best for:
- Most standard grant applications or tender submissions.
- Writers who want to strengthen their proposal before they submit it.
- Those who are applying for a highly competitive grant or tender and want to stand out.
- Those who don’t want to be one of the 30% of applications that generally get rejected in the first assessment round, because they haven’t submitted a compliant application.
“After being unsuccessful in nine consecutive applications, we had a few mentoring sessions with Natalie, and we secured over $100,000! Thank you, Natalie.” – Val Watson
What’s not included:
- Initial Strategy Session: We do not hold a pre-review strategy call to discuss your approach, key messages, or to conduct our own research into the funder. The review is based solely on the documents you provide.
- Review of Supporting Documents: This review focuses on the application. It does not include a detailed review of supplementary materials like letters of support, detailed work plans, CVs, or other attachments unless specifically negotiated.
- Live Feedback Discussion: You will not have a dedicated check-in call to discuss the feedback live with your reviewer. All feedback is delivered in the written report and in-line comments.
- One Review: This package does not include a second review of the document after you have implemented our feedback. You can purchase additional time for this if you’d like, however the scope of this service concludes once feedback is delivered.
Tier 3: The "Full Service" Review
This is our highest level of service, designed for complex, high-stakes applications where every detail counts. We act as a thought partner to ensure your proposal is substantive from every angle.
What’s included:

- Check-in Call: A 30-minute phone or video call with your reviewer to discuss the feedback and answer your questions live. This is an opportunity to talk through our suggestions and brainstorm solutions together.
- One Round of Revisions Review: After you’ve made your changes, we’ll do a second, quick review of the revised document to ensure your edits have effectively addressed the feedback.
‘This was the best process we’ve experienced. The way you broke it down and brought strategy into the conversation. Not only was it an excellent application, we also value the learnings about your approach and the submission process. We’ve now developed an internal process for our new fundraising and grants staff member.’ J.G., Youth organisation
Best for:
- Multi-partner or highly technical proposals.
- Grant applications that are critical to your organisation’s purpose and future funding.
Tender example: The client had completed their budget and through this review, we identified nearly an additional $200,000 the client could put into their budget to ensure all costs were included. This was because the client hadn’t included all the cost of the deliverables which is an easy mistake to make when the deliverables aren’t obvious, a lot of these were ‘hidden’ in the specifications and the contract. This client won the tender. The project management/contract firm gave us feedback that it was the best tender submission they’ve seen. In their words ‘not the best financially, but the best value for money related to strategic outcomes, it exceeded all the specific requirements we’d asked for and it ticked all the compliance boxes’. This client won the initial tender of $697,000 and has since gone on to be placed on their preferred contractor list and has to date completed a further 2 jobs with this company.
Grant pitch (not an open program) example: We worked with a state-based representative association who was pitching a core funding request to the Department. They had heard the minister was considering pulling their funding. Once we worked with them on the initial strategy we undertook a substantive and strategic review This highlighted opportunities to strengthen their pitch, ensure the key messages were strongly presented and consistently reinforced in various ways and clearly demonstrated a substantial return on investment for the funder. This resulted in just over $5.4 million in core funding awarded.
What’s not included:
While we don’t include the below, we can customise a support package that includes some or all of the below.
- Writing or Rewriting Content: We act as your thought partner and reviewer, but we do not write entire sections of the application or proposal for you. We provide suggestions and feedback for you to implement.
- Application Submission: We do not submit the application or tender on your behalf. You are responsible for the final submission process.
- Unlimited Revisions: The package includes one review of your revised draft. It does not include multiple or unlimited rounds of back-and-forth reviews.
- Project Management: This service does not include the overall project management of your application process, such as coordinating with partners or managing internal deadlines.
Need something unique? We can custom-tailor a review package to perfectly match your project's scope and budget
